All About US! 2022

Welcome to our new class for 2022 - Kōtare!  We are taking a few steps back before we move forward again in our journey of being Cybersmart learners.

We have been learning about how to create a poster all about ourselves. We had to find images of things we LOVE using the Explore Tool. This tool lets us only get free images from online with no copyright issues. We learned how to use Word Art to create our names and titles of things we enjoyed in our lives. We also learned to change our backgrounds.

We created these by using our chromebooks, Google Draw, Word Art and images. We pasted our drawings into a shared Slide deck.

We are proud of our posters as we showed each other what we enjoyed out of school and about ourselves.

Something challenging was finding the right images of items we liked, and how to download the finished poster as a .png file. But we got there in the end!

Creating Animations Using Google Slides

This week we made our own animations!  We were able to use a template that Whaea Fiona created for us, or use our own characters we made last week.

We used Google Slides, Images, Shapes and lots of duplication of slides to create our animations.

The part we found most difficult was making sure we didn't have our characters move too far from one slide to the next. We had to create a lot of slides to have our characters move smoothly.

A tip is to only move the character a little bit each time - the more frames you make the better the result!

Have a look at some of our creations!

Creating Our Own Cartoons

We have been learning about how to create a cartoon character from scratch. We could use some images found online, but we also had to use shapes and other tools from Google Drawing.

These are our characters so far. We had to make them with a Christmas theme so we could use them in creating our own animations next week!

We created these by using our chromebooks, Google Draw, shapes, and images. We pasted our drawings into a shared Slide deck.

We are proud of our characters because we invented them and made them exactly as we wanted them.

Something that was quite challenging was getting the shapes to correctly make the character and then find images that fit the shapes. It was complicated sometimes

All about US!

We have been learning about how to create a poster that shows people all about ourselves. We had to make sure we didn't put any private information online.

These are our posters all about us, what we like and what we value.

We created these by using our chromebooks, Google Draw, shapes, images and Word Art.. We pasted our drawings into a shared Slide deck.

We are proud of our posters because we worked hard on them and it took a long time.

Something that was quite challenging was trying to figure out what we could put on the posters that wasn't private.

Be in the right place at the right time online.

We have been learning about being on the right websites at the right time when we are at school.

These are our infographics about where we should be when using our devices.

We created these by using Google Drawing.

We are proud of our infographic posters because they help us to might the right decisions and they look good.

Something we found quite challenging was how to lay it out.

Our tips about creating a poster using Google Drawing are: Make sure you use .png images which have clear backgrounds.

Kawa of Care Comics

We have been learning about how to care for our devices.

These are our comics about how to look after our chromebooks.

We created these by using our chromebooks, Google Draw and Google Slides. We pasted our drawings into a shared Slide deck.

We are proud of our comics because we made them, they are funny and they helped us to know the rules.

Something that was quite challenging was finding the right images for our drawings.

Our tips about caring for your devices are:

  1. Keep food and drink away from your device
  2. Keep it on a flat surface and away from edges
  3. Shut the lid gently
  4. Make sure your keyboard has nothing on it when you shut it
  5. Put it on charge when you aren't using it
  6. Walk with it
  7. Carry using a bear hug hold
  8. Keep it off the ground or where people are walking all the time
  9. Be gentle with keyboard
  10. Only carry one at a time

Welcome to our Classroom Blog!

Nau mai, Haere mai! Welcome to our classroom blog. Here you will be able to see what the tamariki are up to in our classroom, what work they have been completing and thoughts from myself.

With our journey into the kaupapa of Manaiakalani, we are receiving in class support and professional learning from Fiona Waugh who will be coming into class every week and teaching the tamariki and myself about everything to do with devices and the Manaiakalani way.

Our first week we went over our Kawa of Care for our devices. Pleased to announce we are the REIGNING TARANAKI SCHOOL CHAMPIONS for knowing how to handle our chromebooks!!!!

Fiona helping us get familiar with our devices

Super excited kids!

We then had a go at creating our own introductions. It was super fun and the kids got more familiar with Google Drawings. They were set instructions that made them look at fonts, sizes, colours, how to insert a photo so it stayed shaped etc. The ones keen to share then cast them up on our big screen TV for everyone to see. Here's what we achieved:

Here is the full assignment and instructions they had to follow.

We have camp this week so will miss our next session but the tamariki can't wait to pick it up next time.
